A fascinating tour to the Perito Moreno glacier, which is considered one of the most “easily accessible” in the world and which has been recognized by UNESCO as a natural heritage of humanity. With an English-speaking guide, Perito Moreno is a huge mass the size of a twenty-five story building, covered with a 60-meter layer of moving ice. The glacier can be observed from numerous observation platforms located nearby on the shore. Sometimes it becomes difficult to understand where the horizon line lies between the ice sheet and the sky. Approximately every 4 years, the Perito Moreno glacier blocks the strait between the two lakes Argentino and Rico, blocking the flow of water from one reservoir to another. In turn, the melt water accumulated in Lake Rico creates great pressure on the ice, as a result of which the ice dam fails and forms a tunnel in the ice. Within two or three days, the tunnel is washed away and the huge arch collapses into the water with a great roar. This phenomenon is one of the most interesting spectacles in the world.
