General

Mauritius is a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, which is located 900 km east of Madagascar, 2500 km east of Africa and is a popular international resort, one of the most luxurious in the world. The area is 2045 km2, the capital of the country is the city of Port Louis, the population of the island is more than 1,200,000 people. The peculiarity of the island is that it is of volcanic origin and is almost completely surrounded by a coral reef.

How to get there

Since Mauritius is remote from all continents, you can only get here by plane or by sea. Airlines KLM, Air France, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Kenya Airways, British Airways, Iberia, Edelweiss Air, Corsair, Condor Flugdienst, Saudi Arabian Airlines connect Mauritius with other countries. Air Austral, Air Mauritius and Air Seychelles offer flights to nearby islands and Australia.

Climate

Mauritius has a tropical maritime climate. It is characterized by a long wet season: from December to May and from June to August. The dry season is from September to November. In February-March, the islands experience heavy rains and gusty winds at speeds of up to 220 km/h. In summer the temperature does not rise above +35°C, in winter it does not fall below +10°C. The average water temperature all year round is not lower than +23°C. In the central part of the island it is always 3–5°C colder than near the coastline. The winter season is considered to be the period from May to October with an average temperature of +22°C. Summer season – from November to April (average temperature +27°C). The peak season in Mauritius is December-January, but this coincides with the cyclone season. The most suitable months for travel are March – June and September – November: the humidity is not too high and the temperature is suitable for any type of holiday.
