1day
Day 1. Monday. Arrival in Colombo (International flight) – Pinnawala – Sigiriya – Polunnaruwa (310 km – 7 hours on the road)

Arrival at Katunayake International Airport. Meet your representative and transfer to your hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, head to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Then head to Sigiriya, check into your hotel and explore Polunnaruwa. Pinnawala. On the way from Colombo to Kandy is Pinnawala. There, on the banks of the Maha Oya River, an orphanage for orphaned and injured elephants was founded in 1975. Currently, the orphanage has become the largest in the world, housing and protecting about 90 orphaned elephants, including 60 newborns. Here they receive food and education. The role of elephants in the life of Sri Lanka is invaluable - they work in logging, participate in shows and religious processions. Pinnawala is a unique place where you can not only watch elephants bathing in the river, but also wash them, feed them fruits. And the babies - milk. Polonnaruwa is the second capital of Sri Lanka, 11-13 centuries AD. The main attraction of the city is the Gal Vihara temple, the most famous temple in Sri Lanka. Four statues of Buddha in different poses, carved into a granite rock, are called "the best sculptural group in the world." On the left is a meditating Buddha sitting on a lion throne, next to him is a seated Buddha 7 meters high with his hands folded on his chest. It is believed that this is the figure of Buddha's disciple Ananda, bowing to his teacher and seeing him off to the world of nirvana. In confirmation of this, there is a statue of a reclining Buddha about 14 meters long nearby. The Polonnaruwa Archaeological Museum contains a collection of jewelry, household items, ancient coins and cult statues. Polonnaruwa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and rest at a hotel in Sigiriya or Habarana.
