Lost luggage on a business trip: what to do?
Jan 09, 2024
When going on a business trip , an employee takes few things with him, but all of them are necessary. A change of clothes, documents, equipment - without this it is impossible to resolve work issues quickly, and on business trips the entire time is often scheduled to the minute. But no one is immune from unpleasant accidents. One of the common problems when flying is lost luggage. What can be done to prevent this from happening?
The answer is quite banal - try to fly only with hand luggage. Most airlines allow you to take on board “carry-on bags” - small bags that fit into the overhead bin. This way, valuable things will always be at hand and the only thing that threatens you is forgetting them on the plane. But even in this case, the staff will quickly return the bag.
If everything doesn’t fit in your hand luggage and you still took luggage with you, which disappeared after the flight, do not rush to despair. There is a specific protocol for solving such problems. Find the “Lost and Found” counter at the airport and file a lost baggage report. The employee will enter the passenger's details and a description of the lost luggage in block letters in English. Don't forget to take a copy of the document!
Now representatives of the carrier company have been notified of your loss and will begin searching for your suitcase. There is no need to wait for the situation to be resolved at the airport itself—found luggage will be delivered to the hotel by transfer at the airline’s expense. If things are lost at the point of arrival, they will be found quickly. However, if somehow they were sent on another flight, the search could drag on for several days or even weeks.
It is rare, but it happens that luggage is never found. In this case, file a claim and demand compensation. You can receive not only a refund of the cost of the suitcase itself and the items in it, but also compensation for moral damages.
